Current Projects:Digital Citizenship (from MACE, 2012)
This is a list of excellent resources for educating students about copyright issues created just for elementary students. As I have completed my own projects, I model many of the methods and resources included.
Kansas Bullying Prevention Program
Currently our school district's website provides a link to this website that is complete with information and contacts regarding the many types of bullying, including cyberbullying. http://www.stopbullyingkansas.org/ Alternative Day
Mission Valley hosts an Alternative Day each year that focuses on alternatives to drugs, alcohol, and bad choices. Included in this day are also safety sessions. One particular session informs students in a fun way about Internet Issues. http://www.netsmartz.org/ |
Goals for the Future:Technology Night
Our school district may be working with limited financial resources, but we do not lack for excellent technology. Inviting parents and community members into our school to experience our resources could be very rewarding. I can envision each room hosting stations to show off tools like: promethean boards, clickers, district website, classroom websites, research tools, multimedia gadgets, wii systems, GPS, etc. What a fun night! Open House Video Instead of simply reading off rules and procedures of the classroom during Open House, it would be so much more interesting to have the students create a video or slide show. I'm certain they would have a hard time forgetting something they created! I DO, YOU DO This is an area that lends itself best when needed. In third grade, we begin teaching and using research skills like finding and crediting materials, photographs, and print. Because this is a complex issue, I find it best to simplify and use when needed. Modeling and "thinking out loud" by using correct procedures as I create materials will be my priority. |
